Tabari Artspace presents Tagreed Darghouth’s Gardens and Jungles
Lebanese artist Tagreed Darghouth’s solo exhibition Gardens and Jungles at Tabari Artspace. DIFC Dubai, is a thought-provoking creative rendition of the effects of war on everyday life. Rooted deeply in her personal experience of witnessing war in her native Lebanon, the exhibition is an act of resistance through the medium of art. With metaphors from nature Tagreed depicts landscapes, flowers, trees and birds, all painted atop a camouflaged print on fabric or paper. By juxtaposing nature with camouflage, the artist engages in a process of deconstruction and resurrection, symbolising the resilience of the natural world.
Her paintings employ gestural impasto layers. Her artworks incorporate icons such as Ares, the Greek God of War, military helicopters, tanks, and toy soldiers, hinting at the performative masculinity and gamification associated with conflict. “This exhibition celebrates humanity’s brightest achievement – the creation of art – in the face of its darkest moments. Through artistic expression and civil endeavours, humanity has the power to triumph over enforced militarism and separatist cultures,” says Tagreed.
The exhibition opens on September 12th and runs till September 30, 2023.
